Assisted Living Vs. Your Current Cost of Living

An objective first step in evaluating your options.

When you compare your present retirement costs to life at our community, you may be surprised at how affordable we are—a unique value in California assisted living.

By answering the questions below you’ll be able to add up how much you’re paying for monthly expenses. Then consider that many, if not all, of those expenses are covered under our monthly fee. Living here may be a better option than you imagined!

Step 1: Home Ownership

What's the true cost of staying in your home? Total up all the key factors, from your mortgage or rent to property taxes, insurance and periodic repairs. The final sum may suprise you–compared to everything that comes included at our community.

Question 1:

How much do you currently pay monthly for your mortgage or rent?

Question 2:

How much do you pay for property tax? (Take your yearly payment and divide it by 12)

Question 3:

How much do you pay for homeowners or renters insurance?

Question 4:

How much do you spend on major home repairs per month (i.e. roof repairs, foundation repairs, driveway repairs, remodeling)

Step 2: Home Upkeep

Now add up everything you spend on everyday bills—utilities, yard work, gutter cleaning and more. Don’t forget to think about all the time you spend on household chores. Couldn’t that be time better spent?

Question 5:

What is your monthly utility cost (i.e. electricity, gas, water, trash removal, sewer, cable TV.)?

Question 6:

How much do you spend on housekeeping per month?

Question 7:

How much do you spend each month on home maintenance (i.e. plumbing, electricity, pest control, painting, HVAC, lighting)

Question 8:

How much do you typically spend on property maintenance per month? (i.e. yard care, gutter cleaning, tree pruning.)

Step 3: Lifestyle

You’re paying for the rising cost of groceries and gasoline, let alone the extras–entertainment, recreation and travel. How big a bite does all that take out of your budget?

How much do you spend on dining out each month?

Question 10:

How much do you typically spend on transportation each month?

Question 11:

How much do you spend on recreation and entertainment each month?

Step 4: Wellness

Perhaps you’re paying for a health club membership. Perhaps you need caregiver services. You may be subscribing to an emergency service or a 24-hour security system.

How much do you spend on 24-hour security and/or emergency services per month?

What is your monthly health club membership fee?

Question 14:

How much do you typically spend on caregiver services per month?
